About English, Indian, and Filipino languages
In terms of Hindi2.com, English is a random language. Cebuano was added to Hindi and English at the beginning, partly to demonstrate teaching between languages without English. One thing India and the Philippines share in common is that they have a large number of languages in small geographic areas. English is widely spoken in both, but it’s not the primary language for anyone in either one. English is NOT compulsory for education across India, but it’s commonly known, especially among educated Indians.
An argument can certainly be made that English is the most important language for international relations. It’s arguably also the most important for communication between people who speak different primary languages across both India and the Philippines.
Additionally, many Indians in the south are strongly oppposed to adopting compulsory Hindi education. English is compulsory in a lot of Indian schools, but not all. There are many Indians who are opposed to ANY language being taught across India in a compulsory way. Further, even in areas where Hindi is the primary language Indians who are not proficient in English sometimes face discrimination for their limited English skills.
English2Desi.com
Sometime in 2025, English2Desi.com will shift focus to teaching English as a foreign langauge based on American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards, but be linked to Hindi2 to connect languages.
Other world languages
Khmer is planned for early 2025, and Spanish for later in the year. Perhaps one day, Modified Devanagari will be used to teach phonetic pronunciation of Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and other random languages. At least one challenge for Devanagari is that it doesn’t work well with tonal languages. The first two tonal languages that will present challenges for modifying Devanagari will be Thai and Hiligaynon (a Filipino language).
Partly since Cambodian is not tonal, and is related to Thai and Sanskrit, the Founder sees it as a step towards developing Modified Devanagari script for Thai. Likewise, Cebuano is a base language for Hiligaynon. Tagalog is a national language in the Philippines, and likely will be added later, but it’s less closely related to Cebuano and Hiligaynon.
The Founder believes that Hindi2.com can be useful for teaching between any languages she can make spreadsheets and MP3 audio for. Her primary area of interest is South and Southeast Asia, but she also has relatives who are fluent in French and Spanish. European languages do tend to have more resources, but she hopes to include some. Hindi2.com may become the best resource for learning some Asian languages with limited resources, and a viable option for languages that have more.
Alphabets and grammar
Hindi2.com will primarily teach by example, but lessons related to alphabets and grammar will be added over time. Until then, some assumptions are being made about baseline knowledge. The Founder’s dream started with the desire to develop a tool for her to use herself. She later saw the potential for it to help others. She sincerely hopes it will.
